The gateway sends a discover packet to a DHCP server, whether the gateway receives an offer packet sent back by the DHCP server within time-out duration and a preset number of times of sending or not is judged, if yes, the recommendation of the DHCP access mode is output, and if not, the recommendation of the fixed IP is output. The internet surfing type is automatically recommended through the mode that the gateway sends the data packets, and therefore the inconvenience problem caused when a user configures a router is solved.
