Embodiments of the invention disclose a photographing method and a mobile terminal. The method is applied to a mobile terminal with a camera. The method comprises the steps of detecting that the mobile terminal exists from a target environment, then determining whether the mobile terminal is configured with a photographing function enabling rule; if the mobile terminal is configured with the photographing function enabling rule, determining whether a handheld operation of a user for the mobile terminal meets a preset operation attribute, wherein the operation attribute is used for defining the handheld operation in the photographing function enabling rule; and if the handheld operation meets the preset operation attribute, starting the camera of the mobile terminal so as to enable the photographing function of the mobile terminal.
