Embodiment Construction

[0024] Referring now to the accompanying drawings, figure 1 A schematic diagram of the evacuation management system 100 is shown. In the illustrated embodiment, evacuation management system 100 includes at least one emergency sensor 102 , building management system 120 , and occupant devices 104 . In the illustrated embodiment, the evacuation management system 100 may be used in managed buildings with known occupants, such as office buildings, or in unmanaged buildings with no known occupants, such as shopping malls. The evacuation management system 100 may provide occupants via occupant devices 104 with evacuation routes and building floor plans to allow for safer evacuations in response to emergency events. In some embodiments, the evacuation management system 100 may use the image capture device to further identify occupants who have exited the building as well as occupants who may remain inside the building. Advantageously, the evacuation management system 100 may allow ...

Abstract

A method and apparatus to manage a building evacuation of at least one building occupant in response to an emergency event in a building is provided, the method including detecting the emergency eventvia at least one emergency sensor, providing an emergency event signal corresponding to the emergency event via the at least one emergency sensor to a building management system, and providing an alert to at least one occupant device associated with the at least one building occupant via the building management system, wherein the alert includes a building floor plan.

Description

Background technique [0001] The subject matter disclosed herein relates to building management systems, and to systems and methods for providing alerts to building occupants during an emergency. [0002] Typically, evacuation routes and floor plans are displayed statically at predetermined locations within the building. For example, evacuation routes can be located near building exits and stairwells. Building occupants may not be familiar with a particular floor of a building. Advantageously, providing evacuation routes and floor plans would allow occupants to quickly and safely exit the building during an emergency. [0003] Building occupants often use many personal and public devices, such as personal mobile devices and public televisions. Current evacuation systems can utilize statically displayed evacuation routes and floor plans, but may not provide building occupants with evacuation routes and floor plans in a timely manner at a convenient location.
