Abstract

The invention relates to aligning digital images. The present invention relates to a digital camera (10) and a method (30) for aligning digital images (40a, 40b). The method comprises: receiving (S300) images including a first and a second image (40a, 40b) depicting a first and a second region (200a, 200b) of a scene (20), the regions being overlapping and displaced along a first direction (X); aligning (S302) the images using a transformation; determining (S304) disparity values for an overlap (402) between the images; identifying (S306) mis-alignments by identifying (S308) blocks of pixels in the first image having a same position along a second direction (Y) and having disparity values exhibiting a variability lower than a first threshold and exhibiting an average higher than a second threshold; adjusting (S310) the transformation for the identified blocks of pixels in the first image and their matching blocks of pixels in the second image; and realigning (S312) the images using the adjusted transformation.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for aligning digital images. The invention also relates to a digital video camera configured to align digital images. Background technique [0002] Panoramic imaging is a well-known technique for producing images with a magnified field of view of a depicted scene. In this technique, multiple images captured by a camera are combined and stitched into a single panoramic image. [0003] A common problem in panoramic images of scenes involves parallax. The scene is often depicted by the camera from different positions and / or orientations, which appear in the different images as a significant shift in the position of the target. When combining several images into a panoramic image, the method may be to minimize parallax at a certain distance, eg at a distance to a region of interest in the scene. This allows reducing misalignment between multiple images for this area in the scene. However, because scenes are ty...
