Translucent wear resistant dental enamel material and method

A method and material for forming translucent wear resistant dental enamel and the dental enamel material formed which has an opacity less than 50 percent and a localized wear volume loss of less than 0.025 mm3. The dental enamel material is formed from a polymerizable matrix and a filler. The material for forming translucent wear resistant dental enamel having an opacity less than 50 percent, a localized wear volume loss of less than 0.025 mm3 and a localized extended wear volume loss of less than 0.04 mm3, comprises a polymerizable matrix forming liquid and inorganic filler particles. The liquid comprises polymerizable material having a first refractive index. The filler comprising a first plurality of particles having a second refractive index. The first plurality of particles being formed from a low and a high median particle size plurality of particles. The low median particle size plurality of particles having a median particle size between 0.1 and 1.0 micrometers. The high median particle size plurality of particles having a median particle size between 1 and 10 micrometers. The first refractive index being within 5 percent of said second refractive index. More preferably the low median particle size plurality of particles have a median particle size between 0.3 and 0.7 micrometers, and said high median particle size plurality of particles have a median particle size between 1 and 2 micrometers. More preferably the filler further comprises a second plurality of filler particles having an average particle size of from about 0.01 to about 0.04 micrometers.

Extended wear pump diaphragm

The present invention provides a diaphragm for use in pump applications in which at least a predetermined portion of such diaphragm is in contact with such outer piston which would tend to abrade such diaphragm. Such diaphragm is formed from at least one layer of a preselected flexible material. Such diaphragm comprises an outer bead like portion for securing the diaphragm to a pump housing. There is a annular flexure portion having a first end and a second end, such first end and such second end being generally flat and an arcuate shaped middle portion formed contiguously with the first end and the second end. Such first end is formed contiguously with the outer bead like portion. Such annular flexure portion has a substantially uniform first predetermined thickness. An enlarged bulbous portion is formed contiguously with the second end and extends around an inner periphery thereof. Such enlarged bulbous portion has a predetermined configuration. Such diaphragm has an enlarged section formed as a protrusion that extends outwardly from an outer surface of the generally flat second end. Such enlarged section is formed contiguously with the enlarged bulbous portion and extends around an outer periphery thereof. The enlarged section causes the second end to be thicker than such first predetermined thickness. Further, there is a generally flat center portion that is formed contiguously with the enlarged bulbous portion and extends around an inner periphery thereof.

[((1R,2S,5R)-2-isopropyl-5-methyl-cyclohexanecarbonyl)-amino]-acetic acid isopropyl ester and related compounds and their use in therapy

The present invention pertains generally to the field of coolants and medical therapy. More particularly, the present invention relates to certain anti-nociceptive agents, such as [((1R,2S,5R)-2-isopropyl-5-methyl-cyclohexanecarbonyl)-amino]-acetic acid isopropyl ester, that are potent and long-acting and selectively cooling for non-keratinized epithelial tissues as compared to keratinized epithelial tissues, and are useful, for example, for the treatment of (e.g., the alleviation of symptoms of; the amelioration of) sensory discomfort of non-keratinized stratified epithelial (NKSE) tissue; and so for treatment of: sensory discomfort of an ocular surface, an eyelid, a margin of an eyelid, an anterior part of an eyeball, a conjunctiva, a lachrymal system, a pre-corneal film, or a cornea, a lining of the oral cavity, an internal portion of the lips, a pharyngeal surface, an esophageal surface, or an anogenital surface; eye discomfort, e.g., caused by extended wear of contact lenses, by eye strain and/or fatigue, by air pollutants, by excessive exposure to the sun, by conjunctivitis, by dry eye syndrome; sensory discomfort associated with oral mucositis; airway (e.g., larynx, trachea, and/or bronchi) tightness, discomfort in the airways (e.g., larynx, trachea, and/or bronchi), choking, cough, and/or dyspnea, e.g., associated with asthma and/or chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD).

Universal cementing plug

A cementing plug having a universal construction and improved wiping and extended wear characteristics. The cementing plug has a plug subassembly with a body member and an elastomeric jacket on the body member. The body member defines a central opening therethrough with a shoulder therein. To configure the plug as a bottom cementing plug, a shearable insert is positioned on the shoulder, and to configure the plug as a top cementing plug, a non-shearable insert is positioned on the shoulder. The shearable insert is one of a plurality of such inserts designed to shear at correspondingly different shear pressures. In a first embodiment, the shearable insert is a substantially flat disk having a uniform thickness, and in a second embodiment, the shearable insert has an outer ring portion and a relatively thin inner domed portion. Thus, a bottom plug may be pumped down a well casing with cement and a top plug thereabove so that when the bottom plug lands at the bottom of the casing, the shearable insert will shear at the predetermined pressure. The jacket has one or more wiper cups which have a conical surface extending at an acute angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the plug, thereby providing a substantially large contact area in the well casing to improve wiping efficiency and extend life.
