Problems solved by technology

However, as the number of transmit and receive antennas increases in MIMO systems, feeding back channel state information may involve transmitting large amounts of data
In addition, it may be necessary to deliberately limit the data rate in some cases to improve the transmission range of the communication system

Embodiment Construction

[0041] Embodiments of the present invention relate to methods and systems for rate-compressing precoding matrices. Some aspects of the method and system for rate compression precoding matrices include quantizing changes in channel state information in a MIMO precoding system to a codebook, and generating a precoding matrix based at least on the channel state information. The channel state information may be a matrix V and one or more associated singular values. The matrix V can be generated using singular value decomposition (SVD) or geometric mean decomposition (GMD). One or more columns of matrix V may be selected based on the one or more associated singular values, and the selected columns may be combined to produce a precoding matrix. The codebook includes one or more unitary matrices. In this MIMO precoding system an index of a corresponding element of a codebook into which channel state information changes are quantized is transmitted by the receiver to the transmitter...

Abstract

The invention discloses a method and a system for processing communication signal. Aspects of a method and system for a delta quantizer for rate reduction pre-coding matrices may include quantizing a change in channel state information in a MIMO pre-coding system onto a codebook and generating a pre-coding matrix based on at least the channel state information. The channel state information may be a matrix V and one or more associated singular values. The matrix V may be generated using Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) or Geometric Mean Decomposition (GMD). One or more columns of the matrix V may be selected based on the one or more associated singular values and may be combined to enable the generation of the pre-coding matrix. The codebook may comprise one or more unitary matrices. An index of an element of the codebook, onto which the change in channel state information is quantized, may be transmitted from a receiver to a transmitter.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to signal processing for communication systems. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method and system for rate-compressing precoding matrices. Background technique [0002] Mobile communications have changed the way people communicate, and mobile phones have gone from a luxury item to an essential part of people's daily lives. Today, mobile device usage is governed by social context, not by geography and technology. Although voice communication can meet the basic requirements of people's communication, and mobile voice communication has further penetrated into people's daily life, the next stage of mobile communication development is the mobile Internet. The mobile Internet will become a common source of everyday information, and simple and universal mobile access to this data is a given. [0003] Third Generation (3G) cellular networks are specifically designed to meet these future demands of the mobi...
