A method for processing communication traffic includes monitoring the communication traffic that is directed to a group of addresses on a network, and determining respective baseline characteristics of the communication traffic that is directed to each of the addresses in the group. Deviations from the respective baseline characteristics of the communication traffic directed to at least one of the addresses in the group are detected, as an indication that at least some of the communication traffic may be of malicious origin. Responsively to detecting the deviation, the communication traffic that is directed to all of the addresses in the group is filtered so as to remove at least some of the communication traffic that is of the malicious origin.

A system and method is provided for processing communication signals in a wireless personal area network (WPAN) using a transceiver comprising a first transmitter and a first receiver operable to transmit and receive signals using a first transmission protocol and a second transmitter operable to transmit signals using a second transmission protocol. In various embodiments, the first receiver is used to receive a first signal that was transmitted using the first communication protocol and the second transmitter is used to transmit a second signal using the second transmission protocol in response to receipt of the first signal. Methods and systems for processing communication signals in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA)-Passive Optical Network (PON) are disclosed. An optical carrier at a wavelength generated at an optical line terminal (OLT) may be reused by optical network units (ONUs) in the network for upstream transmission of data signals to the OLT. A wireless process communication adapter is provided. The adapter includes a plurality of plugs that are coupleable to a handheld field maintenance tool. A loop communication module is operably coupled to the plurality of plugs. The loop communication module is configured to communicate digitally in accordance with a process loop communication standard protocol. A controller is coupled to the loop communication module, and is configured to transform at least one message received from the loop communication module to at least one corresponding wireless protocol packet.
