Abstract

The invention discloses a method and a system for realizing on-line short message query of a user of a session initiation protocol (SIP). The system comprises an SIP terminal, an SS and a short message centre. A corresponding method comprises the following steps that: a) an SIP terminal user sends a registration request message to the SS to which the SIP terminal user belongs for registration; b)the SS judges that the SIP terminal user is registered for the first time, and then generates an on-line short message query message according to user information and forwards the on-line short message query message to the short message centre; c) the short message centre sends an off-line short message which is stored by the short message centre and is sent to the SIP terminal user to the SS; and d) the SS forwards the off-line short message to the SIP terminal user. The method and the system realize the function of the on-line short message query by utilizing the SS own capability of sensing the online of the SIP terminal, namely, when the SIP terminal user is registered for the first time, the SS actively generates the on-line short message query message and sends the on-line short message query message to the short message centre, which reduces the dependency of the system on the SIP terminal, and also reduces the message flow of the SS and reduces system overhead.
