445 results about "Softswitch" patented technology

A softswitch (software switch) is a call switching node in a telecommunications network, based not on the specialized switching hardware of the traditional telephone exchange, but implemented in software running on a general-purpose computing platform. Like its traditional counterparts it connects telephone calls between subscribers or other switching systems across a telecommunication network. Often a softswitch is implemented to switch calls using voice over IP (VoIP) technologies, but hybrid systems exist.

Voice over data telecommunications network architecture

The present invention describes a system and method for communicating voice and data over a packet-switched network that is adapted to coexist and communicate with a legacy PSTN. The system permits packet switching of voice calls and data calls through a data network from and to any of a LEC, a customer facility or a direct IP connection on the data network. The system includes soft switch sites, gateway sites, a data network, a provisioning component, a network event component and a network management component. The system interfaces with customer facilities (e.g., a PBX), carrier facilities (e.g., a LEC) and legacy signaling networks (e.g., SS7) to handle calls between any combination of on-network and off-network callers. The soft switch sites provide the core call processing for the voice network architecture. The soft switch sites manage the gateway sites in a preferred embodiment, using a protocol such as the Internet Protocol Device Control (IPDC) protocol to request the set-up and tear-down of calls. The gateway sites originate and terminate calls between calling parties and called parties through the data network. The gateway sites include network access devices to provide access to network resources. The data network connects one or more of the soft switch sites to one or more of the gateway sites. The provisioning and network event component collects call events recorded at the soft switch sites. The network management component includes a network operations center (NOC) for centralized network management.

System and method for establishing universal real time protocol bridging

An apparatus and methods for Real Time Protocol (RTP) based bridging to create calls to and From any communication devices connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) or any public or private Internet Protocol network. The methods are represented in controls residing either in an RTP Bridge apparatus or as middleware on a service creation platform, softswitch, or SIP proxy services incorporating SIP bridging and SIP call relay technologies, with an interface to a TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) switch operated by a Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) or Competitive LEC (CLEC), or hosted by an Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP) with connectivity to the PSTN through media gateways. The method permits a party to request an on demand conference call by either dialing into the apparatus from the PSTN or from any type of RTP communication device such as an IP phone; or using a form of signaling from RTP translation device. The moderator initiates the request, enters the participant(s) to be included in the call, and the launch sequence is initiated and the apparatus makes contact with the phone / end point and uses RTP bridging to interlace the packet streams and deliver one stream back to all the devices. The advantage is an on demand conference call to one or many participants, on similar or different communications platforms.

Location based femtocell device configuration and handoff

Methods and apparatus for configuring femtocell devices for performing handoffs in a communication system. The communication system is provided with a plurality of macrocell base stations, a femtocell device, a wireless softswitch and a mobile node. In the communication system, each macrocell base station serves a macro cell, and the femtocell device serves a femto cell and is disposed in one of the plurality of macro cells. The wireless softswitch is communicatively connected with the plurality of macrocell base stations and the femtocell device, and stores geographic coverage area information for each of the plurality of macrocell base stations. The mobile node is originally disposed within the femto cell and moves out of the femto cell. The mobile node transmits a registration message to the femtocell device. The femtocell device forwards the registration message and geographical location information for the femtocell device to the wireless softswitch. The wireless softswitch determines which one of the plurality of macrocell base stations covers the macro cell where the femtocell device is disposed, in dependence upon the received geographical location information for the femtocell device and the stored geographic coverage area information for each of the plurality of macrocell base stations. Then, the wireless softswitch forwards the registration message to the macrocell base station determined.

System and method for performing traffic process in integrated network of voice-over internet protocol network and public switched telephone network

A system and method for performing a traffic process in an integrated network of a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) network and a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) are provided. The system includes: a softswitch which has a plurality of ASPs (Application Server Processes), transmits a data signal to other nodes through an ASP that is selected from among the ASPs, and transmits a heartbeat request message when a CPU (Central Processing Unit) utilization ratio and an SCTP (System Control Transmission Protocol) level congestion of the ASPs exceed respective reference points according to AS (Application Server) / ASP information; and a signaling gateway which updates the reference points of the CPU utilization ratio and the SCTP level congestion in response to the heartbeat request message and transmits a heartbeat acknowledgement message to the softswitch, and checks the CPU utilization ratio and the SCTP level congestion for a plurality of active ASPs within a predetermined CIC (Circuit Identification Code) or SSN (Sub-System Number) range according to the AS / ASP information, to determine the selected ASP when the signaling gateway receives data signal from outside and traffic is distributed.

Integrated element management system for end-to-end network management in next generation network, and network management method thereof

InactiveUS20050125457A1Easily perform overall network managementEasy to operateData switching by path configurationMemory systemsRelevant informationSoftswitch
When an integrated EMS (Element Management system) receives an open command for a new subscriber from a telephone office, it forwards the open command to a relevant network element, which will provide a communication line to the subscriber, to perform an open operation, receives, from the relevant network element, physical connection information allocated to the relevant subscriber terminal by the network element and logical subscriber information allocated to the relevant subscriber by a softswitch according to the subscriber open, and stores the information in a database. The EMS performs a virtual management switch function based on the information in the database to manage a link state and correlated information between respective network elements (NEs). The EMS performs the end-to-end management of alarm, configuration, performance, or the like from the subscriber end to the softswitch by interconnecting a logical number of a subscriber (telephone number) and a physical number of a subscriber node (subscriber connection port ID and position information) as well as link information between the network elements, through the virtual management switch function. Accordingly, there is provided an advantage that a communication path from the softswitch to the subscriber terminal in the next generation network can be collectively managed.
