Those skilled in the art will understand that many of the embodiments provided herein may employ other suitable alternatives.

[0035] The present invention generally relates to ICD systems for providing therapy to patients experiencing specific cardiac arrhythmias, and is directed to detection systems for use in cardiac rhythm devices. In particular, the invention is suitable for ICD systems capable of detecting and defibrillating unwanted cardiac arrhythmias. Although the detection system is primarily used in implantable medical devices that provide defibrillation therapy, the invention can also be applied to cardiac rhythm devices (including external devices) th...

Abstract

The present invention is directed toward a detection architecture for use in implantable cardiac rhythm devices. The detection architecture of the present invention provides methods and devices for discriminating between arrhythmias. Moreover, by exploiting the enhanced specificity in the origin of the identified arrhythmia, the detection architecture can better discriminate between rhythms appropriate for device therapy and those that are not.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application with Chinese National Application No. 200480021401.x, PCT application date of May 28, 2004, and title "Method for Distinguishing Ventricular and Supraventricular Arrhythmias". [0002] Cross-References to Co-Pending Applications [0003] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application Serial No. 60 / 474323 filed May 29, 2003, which is also filed November 21, 2001 with Serial No. 09 / 990510 entitled "APPARATUS AND METHOD OF ARRHYTHMIADETECTION IN A SUBCUTANEOUS IMPLANTABLECARDIOVERTER / DEFIBRILLATOR (Apparatus and Method for Detection of Cardiac Arrhythmia in a Subcutaneous Implantable Cardioverter / Defibrillator)" is a continuation-in-part of the US application. The disclosures of both applications are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0004] The present invention generally relates to a method and apparatus for differentiating heart rhythms suitable for administration of therapy using an impla...
