Embodiment Construction

[0145] refer to figure 1 , a first embodiment of the present invention provides a method 10 of encapsulating digital communication traffic for transmission over an optical link.

[0146] Method 10 includes the following steps:

[0147] a. receiving an incoming digital communication signal 12 with an incoming line code;

[0148] b. performing clock and data recovery on the incoming digital communication signal to obtain the incoming line coded digital communication traffic and recovered clock signal 14;

[0149]c. decoding said incoming digital traffic to obtain information bits and non-information bits 16;

[0150] d. removing said non-information bits 18;

[0151] e. Increase service channel bits for monitoring or maintenance 20;

[0152] f. Assembling the service channel bits and information bits into a frame 22; and

[0153] g. Line-encode the assembled frame using an output line code to form an encapsulated digital communication signal for transmission over an optical...

Abstract

A method (10) of encapsulating digital communication traffic for transmission over an optical link, the method comprising: a. receiving an input digital communication signal (12) having an input line code; b. performing clock and summing on the input digital communication signal data recovery to obtain input line coded digital traffic and recovered clock signal (14); c. decode incoming digital traffic to obtain information bits and non-information bits (16); d. remove said non-information bits (18 ); e. add service channel bits for monitoring or maintenance (20); f. assemble service channel bits and information bits into a frame (22); and g. line code the assembled frame using an output line code to form an encapsulation The digital communication signal for transmission over the optical link (24), wherein steps c. to g. are performed using the timing of the recovered clock signal. A communication network receiver configured to implement the method is also provided.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method of encapsulating digital communication traffic for transmission over an optical link and a communication network transmitter. The invention further relates to a method of converting encapsulated digital communication traffic for transmission over a digital communication link and a communication network receiver. The invention further relates to a communication network base station node and a communication network base station. Background technique [0002] Common Public Radio Interface CPRI transport over optical networks is gaining traction among operators, who see it for real estate consolidation and fiber optic cost savings on reliance and in the longer term for enabling leapfrogging from radio Aggregation and backhaul opportunities for fronthaul to fixed and mobile access networks. [0003] The transmission technology for optical transport network OTN has been standardized in ITU-T recommendation G.709, and provi...
