Abstract

The invention relates to a base station (104) for cellular communication with a plurality of communication devices in a cellular communication network (100) using a cellular communication channel, wherein the plurality of communication devices include a transmitter communication device (101), a plurality of relay communication devices (102) and at least one receiver communication device (103-1, 103-2) and are configured for D2D communication with each other using a D2D communication channel. The base station (104) comprises: a communication interface (104a) configured to receive a request fromthe transmitter communication device (101) for transmitting a communication message from the transmitter communication device (101) to the at least one receiver communication device (103-1, 103-2); and a processor (104b) configured to select a subset of the plurality of relay communication devices (102) for relaying the communication message to the at least one receiver communication device (103-1, 103-2) and to configure the subset of relay communication devices (102) to relay the communication message using one of a plurality of relay modes, including a first relay mode and a second relay mode, wherein the first relay mode is an 'amplify and forward' relay mode and wherein the second relay mode is a 'decode and forward' relay mode.
