[0293] Referring first to Figure 1, there is shown a nursing bed 100 made in accordance with the present invention. The bed 100 includes an inflation system 102 which controllably inflates a mattress 104 supported on a platform 106 comprised of mutually articulating links or panels 108, 109, 110 and 111. Sideboard 108 is considered to be the head of the bed, while sideboard 111 is located at the rear of the bed. The guard plate 111 also includes an extension portion 112 which in turn includes an equipment housing 113 . Each panel has a top panel 115 with a top, support surface 115a and sub-extension tray 117.

Abstract

The present invention relates to patient care systems and proposes a method for controlling a variable feature of a hospital bed having multiple variable features and a controller for changing these features, comprising the steps of: receiving a A feature command of a first feature of the bed; combining a second feature with first and second alternate states to the first feature; determining whether the second feature is in the first state; and if the second feature is in the first state, then changing the first characteristic on command; and changing the characteristic of the bed in a first manner different from said step of changing the first characteristic on command if the second characteristic is in the second state. A bed implementing the above control method is also proposed.
