Embodiment

[0118] The following examples illustrate the invention.

[0119] The lotions shown below are prepared by mixing the individual components. When these four lotions were mixed with commercially available developer (30 volumes of Nice'N Easy  Developer, which contains 4.5% hydrogen peroxide), when mixed, four different gelled hair coloring compositions can be prepared. Human hair can be colored when the composition is applied to the hair and fully incorporated into the hair by finger rubbing.

Composition 1 is not as described in the present invention. It has a lamellar phase index of only 25% and has scored high in clinical tests. Composition 2 is also not according to the invention. Abstract

This invention is a two part system for coloring or bleaching hair which comprises (i) a thin lotion optionally comprising an oxidative dye and comprising a solvent system and a surfactant system to trigger a thickening upon dilution with a developer, and (ii) a developer which comprises a scalp-irritating amount of an oxidising agent. In the system of the invention, the lotion has a Lamellar Phase Index of greater than 80%.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to two-part aqueous compositions for coloring or bleaching hair. In particular, the present invention relates to reducing irritation caused by oxidizing agents present in certain hair coloring or hair bleaching compositions. Background of the invention [0002] Oxidative coloring and bleaching of hair usually involves the use of a two-part system. One part is the lotion, also known as the colorant, which contains various ingredients including the oxidation dye precursors, high pH buffer, and rheology modifier, while the second part is the developer, which contains suitable stabilizing oxidizing agent. When the lotion and developer are mixed, a bleaching / oxidative staining chemical reaction is initiated. For the convenience of the consumer, the two compositions are typically formulated as thin liquids for ease of mixing. Once mixed, they form a viscous liquid solution such as a lotion, cream or gel. [0003] Composi...
