The preparation method comprises the following steps: S1, obtaining magnetic microspheres with carboxyl groups; s2, activating the magnetic microspheres with carboxyl in the step S1 to obtain activated magnetic microspheres; s3, mixing the activated magnetic microspheres obtained in S2 with a first compound and a second compound, reacting, and collecting the microspheres to obtain the magnetic polymer microspheres, the first compound and the second compound competitively react with the carboxyl of the activated magnetic microspheres. The preparation method provided by the invention is simple and convenient to operate, mild in condition and good in repeatability, and the prepared microspheres are accurate and controllable in carboxyl density and uniform in distribution, have the advantages of high magnetic responsiveness, good dispersity, dispersion stability, good biocompatibility and the like, and can be widely applied to the fields of biological separation, diagnosis and the like.

The disclosure relates to a method of producing a composite particle. The method comprises contacting a catalyst particle, an oxidant and a plurality of monomers. The oxidant is a peroxide, a persulfate or ozone, and the catalyst particle is or comprises a material which possesses Fenton or Fenton-like catalytic activity. The catalyst particle catalyses the disproportionation of the oxidant to create an oxygen-radical species, which then initiates a polymerisation reaction and thereby causes the plurality of monomers to polymerise, and thereby form a polymeric shell around the catalyst particle. The invention extends to composite particles produced by the method, apparatuses comprising the composite particles and uses thereof.
