5572 results about "Lotion" patented technology

A lotion is a low-viscosity topical preparation intended for application to the skin. By contrast, creams and gels have higher viscosity, typically due to lower water content. Lotions are applied to external skin with bare hands, a brush, a clean cloth, or cotton wool.

Topical Composition for Treating Pain

ActiveUS20080311167A1Ameliorate and eliminate painFree from painBiocideHydrocarbon active ingredientsSequelaPreventing pain
Topical compositions having as the active ingredient a lipid, fatty acid ester, natural wax, sterol, or combinations thereof referred to herein as “lipophilic vehicle” or “LV” and methods of use, have been developed for the amelioration or prevention of pain or the sequelae of pain. The composition may be in the form of an ointment, cream, gel, lotion, spray, foam, paste, patch, suspension or dispersion. In the preferred embodiment, the formulation is a gel. The LV may contain a penetration enhancer, most preferably one with membrane disruptive properties. The formulation may be applied to or impregnated into a gauze, wrap, bandage, cotton-tipped stick, adhesive bandage strip, or other support wrap or medical bandage or wound cover. For example, the compositions may be are incorporated onto or into disposables such as hemorrhoid wipes, sponge, mouth guards, dental trays; needles or catheters; adult diapers; gloves, socks or wrist bands, for ease of application. The composition is applied topically to a site at or adjacent to a painful region. The composition is reapplied as necessary. Pain relief is typically obtained within minutes and lasts for periods of variable duration ranging from minutes to several hours and even, in some cases, days. The composition is variably effective to treat visceral, somatic and neuropathic pain both acute and chronic as well as muscle pain and stiffness and joint pain and stiffness.

Nanosilver-containing antibacterial and antifungal granules and methods for preparing and using the same

The present invention relates to nanosilver-containing antibacterial and antifungal granules ("NAGs"). The NAGs have longlasting inhibitory effect on a broad-spectrum of bacteria and fungi, which include, but are not limited to, Escherichia coli, Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Chlamydia trachomatis, Providencia stuartii, Vibrio vulnificus, Pneumobacillus, Nitrate-negative bacillus, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, Bacillus cloacae, Bacillus allantoides, Morgan's bacillus (Salmonella morgani), Pseudomonas maltophila, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus foecalis alkaligenes, Streptococcus hemolyticus B, Citrobacter, and Salmonella paratyphi C. The NAGs contain ground stalk marrow of the plant Juncus effusus L. which has been dispersed with nanosilver particles. The nanosilver particles are about 1-100 nm in diameter. Each of the nanosilver particles contain a metallic silver core which is surrounded by silver oxide. The present invention also provides a process for making the NAGs. The NAGs can be used in a variety of healthcare and industrial products. Examples of the healthcare products include, but are not limited to, ointments or lotions to treat skin trauma, soaking solutions or cleansing solutions for dental or women hygiene, medications for treating gastrointestinal bacteria infections, sexual related diseases, and eye diseases. Examples of industrial products include, but are not limited to, food preservatives, water disinfectants, paper disinfectants, construction filling materials (to prevent mold formation).

Compositions and method for targeted controlled delivery of active ingredients and sensory markers onto hair, skin, and fabric

The present invention is a controlled delivery system that can be incorporated in hair, skin, and fabric care products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair styling products, lotions, creams, liquid laundry detergents, fabric softener, and other hair, skin, and fabric care products to effectively deliver a broad range of active agents and sensory markers onto the hair, skin, and fabric. The system also prolongs the release rate of the active agents or sensory markers over an extended period of time, or provides heat triggered release of the active agents and yields a high impact fragrance “burst” upon blow drying the hair, ironing the fabric, or other types of heat treatment. The controlled delivery system of the present invention is a nano-sphere, having an average sphere diameter of from about 0.01 microns to about 10 microns. The nano-sphere comprises hydrophobic materials, cationic conditioning agent or, cationic conditioning agent in conjunction with a cationic charge booster to assist in adhering the spheres onto hair, skin, and fabric. The invention further relates to a controlled delivery system where the release rate of the active ingredients is synchronized with that of a sensory marker to convey to the consumer the product performance.

Methods and Apparatus for Personal Care

InactiveUS20100217357A1Effectively cleanseEffectively rejuvenateCosmetic preparationsToilet preparationsEtiologyWrinkle skin
Methods, apparatus and systems for personal care, such as treatment of a skin or hair treatment surface, are disclosed. In some embodiments, a base device is configured to thermally modify (heat or cool) an applicator on a hand piece that can then be used to cleanse, treat and/or otherwise rejuvenate the treatment surface. The applicator can be formulated with a smooth or abrasive material that can absorb, be coated with or otherwise take up a variety of materials, such as liquids, lotions, gels or creams, which are suitable for application to the treatment surface. The base device may thermally modify the material that is then coupled to the applicator and applied to the treatment surface during treatment. Application of the applicator at the desired temperature to the treatment surface may, for example, stimulate deeper blood circulation, clear pores, diminishes or removes deep and fine wrinkles, accelerate acne clearing, treat blemished skin, decrease edema and erythema of the skin, and/or reduce puritis of various etiologies. The hand piece may comprise one or more secondary treatment elements, such as LEDs for photoactivation, electrodes for delivery of micro-currents or vibrating elements for rubbing or abraiding, in order to achieve additional activation of the treatment surface and/or of the thermally modified material coupled to the applicator, which may enhance or improve treatment.

Coated nanofiber webs

The present invention is directed to a method of forming nonwoven webs comprising coated fibers. The method of forming the nonwoven web generally comprises the steps of forming fibers from a melt fibrillation process, forming at least one fluid stream containing a coating substance, applying the coating substance onto the surface of the fiber, and depositing the coated fibers on a surface to form a web. Typically, the fibers are coated in flight. Preferably, the melt fibrillation process to form the fibers is a melt film fibrillation process. A melt film fibrillation process generally includes the steps of providing a polymeric melt, utilizing a central fluid stream to form an elongated hollow polymeric film tube, and using air to form multiple nanofibers from the hollow tube. The nonwoven web may comprise a layer having a significant number of nanofibers with diameters less than one micron. The layer may comprise two or more pluralities of fiber diameter distributions wherein at least one plurality has an average fiber diameter of less than about one micron. The coating substance can be selected from the group consisting of lotions, powders, surfactants, softeners, nanoparticles, creams, gels, conducting fluids, hydrophilic agents, hydrophobic agents, hygroscopic agents, emollients, plasticizers, absorbent gelling material, antimicrobial agents, and combinations thereof. A preferred coating substance is a surfactant. Another preferred coating substance is a hydrophilic or hydrophobic substance. The present invention is also directed to a nonwoven web comprising a layer having a significant number of nanofibers with diameters less than one micron and a coating substance is applied to a surface of said nanofibers
