An apparatus provides overhead canopy / cover function for an outdoor cooking grill. The canopy provides protection of the food and the grill from fallen debris during cooking. When the grill is not in use, the apparatus can be retracted to a cover position for storage. In the retracted position, the apparatus provides a compact cover to prevent dust and other debris from damaging the grill.
