This invention discloses a novel use of Artemisia annua seeds, a medicinal and edible compound composition for relieving hangovers and protecting the liver, chewable tablets, and their preparation process. This invention is the first to discover that the mucilage in Artemisia annua seeds slows down ethanol diffusion through a dual mechanism of physical adsorption and three-dimensional network blockage, thus slowing down the rate of ethanol absorption in the digestive tract, reducing the peak blood plasma concentration, and delaying or prolonging the time of intoxication. Therefore, it can be used in the preparation of health products / functional foods that protect the stomach, prevent intoxication, and delay alcohol absorption. Based on this discovery, this invention provides a medicinal and edible compound composition for relieving hangovers and protecting the liver, composed of 10-15 parts by weight of Pueraria lobata, 10-15 parts by weight of Hovenia dulcis, 8-10 parts by weight of Lilium brownii, 4-8 parts by weight of Poria cocos, 4-8 parts by weight of Dioscorea opposita, and 4-8 parts by weight of Artemisia annua seeds.
