A connecting chamber (60) is provided, into which the rod-shaped segment (43) protrudes, the connecting chamber (60) being arranged outside the reactor vessel (10) and adjacent to the wall (14) of the reactor vessel (10) through which the rod-shaped segment (43) passes in its wall channel (15). A gas feeding device (80-82) is provided, which is configured to load an inert gas into a connecting chamber (60), wherein a wall channel (15) is designed to be permeable, such that at least a portion of the inert gas fed into the connecting chamber (60) flows into the reactor vessel (10), the wall channel (15) having a rod-shaped section (43) therein that is longitudinally movable. The corresponding method is also the subject of this invention.
