[0022] Various aspects are now described with reference to the figures. In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of one or more aspects. It may be evident, however, that such an approach may be practiced without these specific details.

[0023] figure 1 A network interconnect architecture 100 is shown according to various disclosed aspects. Mobile device 102 may be communicatively coupled to first network 104 and second network 106 over wireless or wired links. Mobile device 102 may be, for example, a mobile phone, a personal digital assistant, or any other mobile device. Additionally, although mobile devices are described herein, note that the described systems, methods and apparatus can also be implemented on stationary electronic devices, such as desktop personal computers. Although two networks are shown, this configuration is merely exemplary. Mobile device 102 may ...

Abstract

A method and apparatus for ensuring network address uniqueness is described herein. An address manager determines whether any link-local addresses associated with peripheral devices connected to a mobile device would conflict with a network assigned global address. The address manager negotiates with the network to avoid conflicts.

Description

[0001] Priority claim under 35 U.S.C. §119 [0002] This patent application claims priority to Provisional Application No. 61 / 075,127, filed June 24, 2008, entitled "Method and Apparatus for Ensuring IPv6 Uniqueness in a Mobile Subnetted Environment," assigned to the recipient of this application Almighty, is hereby incorporated by reference herein. technical field [0003] The present application relates generally to communications and, more particularly, to ensuring uniqueness of IP addresses when translating valid link-local IPv6 addresses into globally addressable IPv6 addresses. Background technique [0004] In an Internet Protocol (IP) network, a host communicates with another host through a router. In IP terminology, a "node" is an IP-implementing device, a "router" is a node that forwards IP packets not explicitly addressed to the router, and a "host" is a node that is not a router. As used herein, "IP" generally refers to all versions of the Internet Protocol. A ...
