Abstract

The invention discloses a method for acquiring IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) configuration information from an IPv6 transition network. The IPv6 transition network comprises an IPv4 network and an IPv6 network, wherein an IPv6 configuration information providing device in the IPv4 network receives an IPv6 configuration information acquisition request message sent by user-side equipment; the request message is a DHCPv4 (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IPv4) message and comprises identification information, and the identification information is used for identifying IPv6 configuration information that the request message requests to be acquired; and the IPv6 configuration information providing device sends a response message to the user-side equipment, wherein the response message is the DHCPv4 message and carries the IPv6 configuration information that the request message requests to be acquired. The invention has the advantages of realizing the automatic configuration of the user-side equipment which needs to access the IPv6 network through the IPv4 network; and compared with the manual configuration method in the prior art, the efficiency is greatly promoted.
