Abstract

The invention discloses a character input method which comprises the following steps: generating a name candidate list and a core word candidate list according to character strings input by users; selecting a name candidate word with the maximum probability from the name candidate list, and carrying out processing on the probability of the selected name candidate word so as to obtain the contrast probability of the name candidate word; and comparing the contrast probability of the name candidate word with the probability of each core word in the core word candidate list one by one, and displaying the name candidate list according to the obtained comparison results. Accordingly, the invention also discloses a character input device. The method and device disclosed by the invention have the advantages that the control on name mode switching is performed through probability comparison, thereby reducing the probability of prompting to enter name modes under the condition of inputting non-names, reducing the user harassment, and improving the user experience.
