8781 results about "Input method" patented technology

An input method (or input method editor, commonly abbreviated IME) is an operating system component or program that allows any data, such as keyboard strokes or mouse movements, to be received as input. In this way users can enter characters and symbols not found on their input devices. Using an input method is obligatory for any language that has more graphemes than there are keys on the keyboard.

Multimodal interface for input of text

The disclosure describes an overall system / method for text-input using a multimodal interface with a combination of speech recognition and text prediction. Specifically, an “always listening” mode for entering words is combined with a push-to-speak mode for entering symbols and phrases. In addition, these two modes are further combined with keypad based text prediction. Finally, the overall user-interface of the proposed system is designed such that it enhances existing standard text-input methods; thereby minimizing the behavior change for mobile users.

Touch Screen System with Hover and Click Input Methods

InactiveUS20080259053A1Small touch areaExpand the touch areaInput/output processes for data processingTouchscreenSignal processing
A touch screen system that can approximate tracking and dragging states regardless of the user's orientation and without reliance on direct sensing of touch pressure or area. A first detector generates a signal representing a first image of an object interacting with the touch screen. A second detector generates a signal representing a second image of the object. A signal processor processes the first signal to determine approximated coordinates of a first pair of outer edges of the object and processes the second signal to determine approximated coordinates of a second pair of outer edges of the object. The signal processor then calculates an approximated touch area based on the approximated coordinates of the first pair of outer edges and the approximated coordinates of the second pair of outer edges of the object. If the approximated touch area is less than or equal to a threshold touch area, the signal processor determines that the object interacting with the touch screen indicates a tracking state. If the approximated touch area is greater than the threshold touch area, the signal processor determines that the object interacting with the touch screen indicates a selection state. The threshold touch area may be established by calibrating the touch screen system when the object interacting with the touch screen is known to indicate the tracking state.

Method and system for providing alternatives for text derived from stochastic input sources

A computer-implemented method for providing a candidate list of alternatives for a text selection containing text from multiple input sources, each of which can be stochastic (such as a speech recognition unit, handwriting recognition unit, or input method editor) or non-stochastic (such as a keyboard and mouse). A text component of the text selection may be the result of data processed through a series of stochastic input sources, such as speech input that is converted to text by a speech recognition unit before being used as input into an input method editor. To determine alternatives for the text selection, a stochastic input combiner parses the text selection into text components from different input sources. For each stochastic text component, the combiner retrieves a stochastic model containing alternatives for the text component. If the stochastic text component is the result of a series of stochastic input sources, the combiner derives a stochastic model that accurately reflects the probabilities of the results of the entire series. The combiner creates a list of alternatives for the text selection by combining the stochastic models retrieved. The combiner may revise the list of alternatives by applying natural language principles to the text selection as a whole. The list of alternatives for the text selection is then presented to the user. If the user chooses one of the alternatives, then the word processor replaces the text selection with the chosen candidate.

Input method and apparatus using tactile guidance and bi-directional segmented stroke

An input method that is based on bidirectional strokes that are segmented by tactile landmarks. By giving the user tactile feedback about the length of a stroke during input, dependence on visual display is greatly reduced. By concatenating separate strokes into multi-strokes, complex commands may be entered, which may encode commands, data content, or both simultaneously. Multi-strokes can be used to traverse a menu hierarchy quickly. Inter-landmark segments may be used for continuous and discrete parameter entry, resulting in a multifunctional interaction paradigm. This approach to input does not depend on material displayed visually to the user, and, due to tactile guidance, may be used as an eyes-free user interface. The method is especially suitable for wearable computer systems that use a head-worn display and wrist-worn watch-style devices.

Method and system for filtering and selecting from a candidate list generated by a stochastic input method

A computer-implemented method and system for correcting text input from a stochastic input source is provided. After a text component such as a word or phrase is identified as erroneous where, for example, the stochastic input source translated the input incorrectly, a list of alternatives to the erroneous text component is provided to the user via a user interface that pops up directly into the document being prepared. The user begins editing the erroneous text component by typing directly into the document or by spelling aloud, in the case of a speech recognition device. As the user begins editing, the list of alternatives is filtered to provide only alternatives that may match the user's editing. With each additional character or letter entered by the user during editing, the list is further filtered. A suggested completion for the user's editing may be provided to the user by displaying the suggestion directly in the document.
