The identification method is based on waveform characteristics of traveling wave current in on-line monitoring electric transmission line phase conductors and mainly includes performing on-line monitoring to the traveling wave current, extracting data of lightning stroke failure traveling wave current on a guide line, analyzing the waveform characteristics of the lightning stroke failure traveling wave current and determining that the electric transmission line has a lightning shielding failure if a section prior the maximum traveling wave current amplitude value responds to a like polarity small pulse which is directly connected with a main discharging pulse and the pulse response duration and the current amplitude value are within certain ranges.
