Problems solved by technology

However, it may still be expensive to dispose of a syringe comprising a separable needle part and syringe body part, because although the amount of waste including the needle may be reduced, there is a significant difference between the needle and the syringe and the patient. or patient body fluids, both parts are biowaste
[0006] Additionally, handling or working with needles can be dangerous

Embodiment Construction

[0022] Reference will now be made to the drawings, where similar structures will be provided with similar reference numbers. It is understood that the drawings are diagrammatic and schematic representations of exemplary embodiments of the invention, and the drawings are non-limiting and need not be drawn to scale.

[0023] For the sake of clarity, it will be understood that the word "proximal" refers to the direction relatively closer to the clinician using the device to be described herein, while the word "distal" refers to relative Away from the direction of the clinician. For example, the end of a catheter placed in a patient is considered the distal end of the catheter, and the end of the catheter remaining outside the body is the proximal end of the catheter. Furthermore, the words "including", "has" and "having" as used herein (including the claims) shall have the same meaning as the word "comprising".

Abstract

Systems and methods for administering drugs to a patient, including a syringe system. The syringe system includes a plastic needle coupled to an end of a syringe barrel, the needle including a proximal taper and a distal taper. A cannula assembly is removably coupled to the plastic needle, the cannula including mating surfaces for the proximal and distal tapers of the plastic needle. The syringe system can also include a cannula cover with a first and second end with different sizes to respectively attach to the cannula assembly and the barrel when the cannula assembly is removed. The cannula may have a distal tip cut at an angle to ensure maximum removal of drug from a given vial.

Description

[0001] priority : This application claims the priority rights of U.S. Patent Application No. 12 / 793,380 filed on June 3, 2010, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Technical field [0002] The present invention relates generally to systems and methods for medical devices, and more particularly, some embodiments relate to medical syringe systems and methods related to such syringes. Background technique [0003] In many cases, hypodermic syringes are used to deliver drugs to patients. These syringes typically include various "dead spaces" within the syringe between the various components of the syringe. The void space is an area that can contain substances that are not generally delivered to the patient during injection. For example, a typical syringe will block the drug between the end of the push rod and the wall of the syringe or within the end of the syringe that holds the needle body and has a diameter smaller than the diameter of the push rod.
