The invention further relates to the use of 2-phenoxyethanol for synergistically enhancing the antimicrobial efficacy of mixtures of at least two of the abovementioned alkanediols, a method for preservation or antimicrobial treatment of a perishable product, a method for the cosmetic treatment of certain microorganisms, as well as the use of an inventive mixture of therapeutic treatment of certain microorganisms.
