The method comprises the following steps that a first acceleration magnitude of the electronic device in the first direction, a second acceleration magnitude in the second direction and a third acceleration magnitude in the gravity direction are acquired, the gravity direction is perpendicular to the plane where the first direction and the second direction are located, and the first direction is perpendicular to the second direction; in the preset direction, the first acceleration magnitude and the second acceleration magnitude are respectively zero in a constant manner, the third acceleration magnitude is constant within a gravity acceleration range, and prompt data are generated. The prompt data generated through the data generating method and device can prompt a user that the electronic device may drop out and caution the user to recover the dropping electronic device in time, so that the aim of notifying the user in time when the electronic device drops out is achieved.
