Modular landscaper

A modular landscaper uses oversized wheels to generate torque for turning one or more of several interchangeable modular landscape maintenance attachments. The landscaper provides a handle configured in relationship to the landscaper frame to allow an adult to normally walk behind the landscaper while applying a forward force by pushing on the handle that results in the wheels of the landscaper rolling along a landscape maintenance surface and generating torque that is transferred through a drive train to the one or more attached landscaping maintenance attachments. A drive train uses the rotational energy of the wheels to increase the operator pushing force to operate the maintenance attachment. Interchangeable attachments facilitate using the landscaper for a wide variety of landscaping maintenance tasks.

Shock-absorbent snowplow mount

A snowplow mount is provided wherein a vehicle mount extending from the plowing vehicle is affixed to a reversing table, which is in turn rotatably connected to a plow moldboard at one or more pivots. One of the moldboard or the reversing table includes a bearing thereon, the bearing having a bearing bore defined therein. The other of the moldboard or the reversing table includes a pin which is elastically journalled within the bearing so that the pin and bearing may both rotate with respect to each other as well as translate with respect to each other in radial directions (i.e., in planes which are generally parallel to the axes of the pin and the bearing bore). Thus, loading of the moldboard allows the moldboard to translate with respect to the reversing table at the pivot as well as rotate. The reversing table is rotatably affixed to the vehicle mount with a linear actuator affixed therebetween so that actuation of the linear actuator will cause the reversing table to rotate with respect to the vehicle mount. The linear actuator is elastically mounted between the reversing table and vehicle mount so that the two may rotate a slight amount with respect to each other, with such rotation being elastically resisted. As a result, shock loading of the moldboard (and thus the reversing table) will not be readily transmitted to the linear actuator.

Snow Shovel

The snow shovel easily and with minimal effort, scoops up a pile of snow, pivot and wheels the contents to another location, whereupon operation of a lever releases its load. The telescoping frame and rotatable handle provides a selection of lockable positions. The front mounted scoop head is pivotally mounted to the lower end of the frame. Upon activation of a release lever, the scoop head is allowed to rotate downward, releasing its load. A wheel assembly mounted to an intermediate portion of the frame supports the shovel in an inclined position, allowing the user to concentrate on applying force in a forward direction rather than expending effort lifting the handle. Furthermore, the wheel assembly acts as a fulcrum whereby downward pressure on the handlebars of the shovel elevates the scoop for ease of transport. The wheel assembly may be rotated towards the frame when not in use.

Snowthrower chute and deflector control

A single joystick type control handle controls the chute and deflector of a snowthrower. The control handle can be moved laterally from side to side and a second linkage including a gear connection laterally rotates the chute from side to side in the same direction, i.e. movement of the control handle to the left rotates the chute to the left and vise versa. The gear connection has a mechanical advantage that increases the amount of the angular rotation of the chute, i.e. the chute rotates further than the angular movement of the control handle. The control handle can also be moved longitudinally from fore to aft and a second linkage comprising a flexible cable pivots the deflector up and down on the chute in the same direction, i.e. moving the control handle forward pivots the deflector down and vise versa. A locking mechanism is provided to hold the chute and the deflector in their adjusted positions.

Homeowner's method of snow removal with a motor vehicle

This method provides various high-power-ratio snow removal devices which clear paths narrower than the motor vehicles. We use small, light, low-priced, yet also safe, durable devices to clear the narrow swaths. High power ratios result from applying motor vehicle horsepower to small snow removal devices similar to those found on lawn tractors. Such devices may comprise moldboard plows (FIGS. 3, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16), snow throwers (FIGS. 7 and 13), or combinations of both types (FIG. 12 and 17). Quick-connect and quick-release fittings (FIGS. 3A, 3B, 6, 8, 9A, 9B, 14) position each device for temporary propulsion by a vehicle. The connectors allow quick conversion of the family car to a plowing machine, and when plowing is done, quick re-conversion. A moldboard plow of about half the car's width (FIG. 3) is our preferred embodiment. The mini-moldboard (FIG. 10) is least expensive. Deepest snow can be handled by our tall, narrow moldboard (FIG. 15). We protect homeowners, their cars and their plows from injury when plows strike hidden objects. Protection devices comprise safety springs (60) and pivots (63, 67 and 69) of FIG. 3B, the tension-release mechanism mentioned but not detailed in FIG. 15, annor shields (396, 398) of FIG. 16 and various others mentioned or provided for in our drawings but not detailed. We prefer cars' chassis tie-down ears (72) in FIG. 3A, as connector points for our plow or thrower arms. For cars lacking such ears, we propose add-on ears. For example, tie-down ear (126) in FIG. 6.

In one embodiment, the handle includes a first tube, a second tube connected to a working unit of a portable tool, and wherein a portion of the second tube is telescopically received into the first tube. A coupling is provided to receive a portion of the first tube and the second tube. The coupling has a pin stop which engages a pin connected to one of the tubes and defines a limit of a range of relative rotational motion between the first tube and the second tube. In one embodiment, the upper tubular portion of the handle and a control grip are capable of being rotated relative to a working unit.
