The brightness correction method comprises the steps that the first gray scale values of all pixels of a first area and/or a second area in a first image frame are acquired; the second gray scale values of all the pixels of the first area and the second area or only the first area are determined according to the first gray scale values of all the pixels of the first area and/or the second area, wherein the second gray scale values of all the pixels of the first area and the second area or only the first area are equal; the first gray scale values of all the pixels of the first area and the second area or only the first area are updated by the second gray scale values so that a second image frame is generated; the second image frame is displayed on a display panel; the actual brightness value of the first area is detected; and brightness of a backlight module group is adjusted according to the actual brightness value and a target brightness value of the first area.
