The invention provides a heartbeat keep-alive method for a long connection in a communication network and a heartbeat keep-alive apparatus for the long connection in the communication network. The method comprises the steps of: determining a current network type; according to the current network type, sending a heartbeat packet to a server in accordance with a corresponding default sending period; counting continuous failure times or continuous success times of sending the heartbeat packet to the serve; judging whether the continuous failure times are greater than or equal to first preset times, or judging whether the continuous success times are greater than or equal to second preset times; and according to a judgment result, regulating the default sending period corresponding to the current network type so as to send the heartbeat packet to the server in accordance with the regulated sending period. According to the technical scheme, the sending period of sending the heartbeat packet to the server can be effectively prolonged, and by analyzing a user behavior, a timing starting point of one sending period of the heartbeat packet is regulated, thereby reducing working time of a heartbeat to the greatest extent and saving an electric quantity and flow.
