Abstract

The invention relates to a transparent display device and a display method. The method and the device are used for solving the problem of how to improve the contrast ratio and the display effect of the display image of an existing transparent display device. The transparent display device comprises a transparent display panel with a plurality of sub-pixels, and a plurality of dimming units capable of dimming independently. Each dimming unit corresponds to at least one sub-pixel. When the sub-pixel is in a display mode, the dimming unit corresponding to the sub-pixel is in a light shading mode; and when the sub-pixel is in a transparent mode, the dimming unit corresponding to the sub-pixel is in the transparent mode. According to the transparent display device, the plurality of dimming units capable of dimming independently are arranged, each dimming unit corresponds to at least one sub-pixel, and therefore, the mode of the corresponding dimming unit can be adjusted according to the current mode of the sub-pixel; and further the ambient light on the back of each sub-pixel in the transparent display panel is shielded according to a demand, the contrast ratio of the transparent display device is improved, and the display effect is better.
