The method is applied to main equipment of the VSM system, and comprises the steps of determining whether a currently configured first interface identifier is the same as a second interface identifier of an interface adopted by last split detection or not, the first interface identifier being an interface identifier of any interface on the main equipment; if it is determined that the first interface identifier is different from the second interface identifier, enabling a first interface corresponding to the first interface identifier, and initializing a split detection message; determining whether the first interface can be configured as a split detection interface or not according to whether the first interface mounts a processing function or not; and if it is determined that the first interface can be configured as a split detection interface, performing split detection by using the first interfaceand the split detection message.
