Problems solved by technology

However, with a curved Y-shaped channel set, it may be difficult for the user to pull the Rogowski coil through the channel and direct the Rogowski coil in a slightly opposite direction at the diverging spaced-apart ends of the channel Under the circumstances, the bends required in the loop to tighten the loop around the insulated conductor may prevent the loop from fitting tightly around the conductor

Embodiment Construction

[0036] One or more embodiments of the present disclosure relate to electrical parameter sensor probes and to devices for measuring electrical parameters (eg, voltage, current) in an insulated electrical conductor (eg, insulated wire) without the need for a galvanic connection to the conductor. ) devices and methods. As described herein, an electrical parameter measuring device is configured to measure one or more electrical parameters in an insulated conductor. Such devices that do not require a galvanic connection to a conductor to measure a parameter are non-contact devices. As used herein, a "non-contact" device or sensor operates to detect an electrical parameter in an insulated conductor without requiring galvanic contact with the conductor.

[0037] In various embodiments, a non-contact electrical parameter sensor probe is provided that operates to accurately measure both current and voltage in an insulated conductor under test. The sensor probe includes a body, a Rogo...

Abstract

The present invention relates to non-contact voltage measurement with an adjustable size Rogowski coil. A sensor probe includes a body having first and second channels that are spaced apart and extend through the body approximately parallel to each other. The first end of the Rogowski coil is fixed within the first channel. The Rogowski coil passes through the second channel and loops back to the first channel, wherein the second end of the Rogowski coil is selectively insertable into the first channel opposite to the first end of the Rogowski coil. The non-contact sensor coupled to the body is positioned between the first and second channels to measure a parameter of an insulated conductor situated within the loop formed by the Rogowski coil. The size of an interior region within the loop is selectively adjustable by the sliding movement of the Rogowski coil within the second channel.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to electrical parameter measuring devices, and more particularly, to sensor probes for electrical parameter measuring devices. Background technique [0002] A voltmeter is an instrument used to measure voltage in a circuit. Instruments that measure more than one electrical characteristic are called multimeters, and operate to measure many parameters typically required for troubleshooting, service and maintenance applications. Such parameters typically include alternating current (AC) voltage and current, direct current (DC) voltage and current, and resistance or continuity. Other parameters such as power characteristics, frequency, capacitance and temperature can also be measured to meet specific application requirements. [0003] For a conventional voltmeter or multimeter to measure AC voltage, it is necessary to bring at least two measuring electrodes or probes into galvanic contact with the conductor, which...
