Abstract

A method and system (100) for computer-aided diagnostic audiometry testing is disclosed. The computer-aided diagnostic auditory test includes an ambient noise monitoring module (300) configured to monitor ambient noise in the surrounding environment; a patient information module (302) configured to receive patient information and hearing-related test selections; and a pure tone hearing threshold module (304 ), configured as a manual test to aid in pure tone hearing threshold testing. The computer-aided diagnostic auditory test also includes a speech reception threshold module (306) configured to facilitate the manual testing of the speech reception threshold test, and a speech discrimination module (308) configured to assist the manual testing of the speech discrimination test.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to the field of audiology and, in particular, to computer-aided methods and systems for assessing and analyzing hearing loss. Background technique [0002] According to recent studies, more than 20 million people in the United States alone have some degree of hearing loss. The number of people worldwide who have some degree of hearing loss is estimated to be much greater. Not surprisingly, many of these individuals are unaware that they have suffered from hearing loss. This decline in hearing ability can be caused by several factors, including age, health, occupation, injury, and disease. This hearing loss can lead to a significant reduction in quality of life, impaired relationships, reduced employment opportunities, and reduced productivity. Failure to treat hearing loss will worsen these effects. According to the Better Hearing Institute, untreated hearing loss costs about $56 billion annually in lost prod...
