Embodiment Construction

[0022] Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0023] FIG. 1 shows a portable computer 1 as an example of an electronic device, and an expansion device 2 for expanding the functions of the portable computer 1 .

[0024] The portable computer 1 includes a host unit 3 and a display unit 4 . The host unit 3 contains main structural components such as a CPU and a hard disk drive not shown. The host unit 3 has a keyboard 5 on its upper surface and a keyboard 5 on its lower surface such as Figure 5 Expansion connector shown.

[0025] The display unit 4 includes an input board 7 . The input pad 7 has an input surface 7a to perform an input operation with a stylus. The input surface 7 a is exposed outside the display unit 4 through an opening 8 formed on the front surface of the display unit 4 .

[0026] The display unit 4 is connected to the host unit 3 through hinges (not shown). The display unit 4 is rotatab...

Abstract

A supporting device has a first housing (14) and a second housing (15) stacked on the first housing (14). The first housing (14) and the second housing (15) are connected through a hinge shaft (33) so as to be relatively pivotable. The cable (12) passes a connection section between the first housing (14) and the second housing (15). The first housing (14) and the second housing (15) respectively have holes (68, 69) communicating to each other at positions separated from the hinge shaft (33). The cable (12) straddles, through the holes (68, 69), between the first housing (14) and the second housing (15).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a support device for connecting an electronic device, such as a portable computer, to an external device. Background technique [0002] Electronic devices such as portable computers are designed to have thin and compact housings for easy portability. Therefore, it is impossible to provide sufficient space within the housing for a plurality of connectors, multiple drivers, etc. to be connected to external devices. [0003] Portable computers where portability is important have expansion connectors. The expansion connector is used to connect the laptop computer to an expansion device called a docking station. The adoption of the expansion device enables the portable computer to achieve the same functions as the desktop computer. [0004] A conventional expansion set includes a tray that removably supports the portable computer and a cable arrangement with a plurality of accessory connectors for connection to various ex...
