Benefits of technology

[0024]Also, the present invention provides a method and system for simultaneously providing a single message group including messages transmitted / received between users of heterogeneous services, for example, between a CPM client of a CPM service requiring session setup and a Short Message Service (SMS) user of an SMS that does not require session setup, so that the CPM client can effectively transmit / receive a conversational message without determining if the counterpart of the conversational message is a user for whom the CPM service is supported.

Problems solved by technology

Although these services rely on different technologies, user experiences the services provide partially overlap with each other.
Further, it is also impossible to provide a conversational view including previously exchanged messages in the case of restarting the conversation later, because messages are not bound to any particular session, and thus are not linked to each other.

Embodiment Construction

[0042]Hereinafter, exemplary embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the following description, the same elements will be designated by the same reference numerals although they are shown in different drawings. Further, a detailed description of known functions and configurations incorporated herein will be omitted when it may make the subject matter of the present invention rather unclear.

[0043]As used herein, a series of messages transmitted / received between a Converged Internet Protocol Message (CPM) client using the CPM service and the same counterpart is called a “messages thread.” The present invention provides a more friendly user interface by grouping and displaying one or more messages included in a message thread on a single window when a CPM client provides the message thread to a user. According to the present invention, when a CPM client performs message communication with a particular counterpart, an identi...

Abstract

A mechanism to enable multiple message threads management in the context of the Converged IP Messaging (CPM) service and in the context of CPM inter-working with SMS is provided. A CPM user can simply start a message-based conversation with another CPM or Short Message Service (SMS) user without explicitly establishing a session beforehand. All messages that belong to a given conversation are displayed in the corresponding conversational view (i.e. window) in the CPM user device, even if the conversation is stopped and restarted at a later time, and even if there are multiple message threads available (currently active or stored) in the CPM device. Message structures and behavior of the CPM system elements to enable the functionalities above as well as a mechanism makes the message threads management possible even between a CPM user and an SMS user are also provided.

Description

PRIORITY[0001]This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. § 119(a) to an application entitled “Method And System For Managing Message Threads In Converged IP Messaging Service” filed in the Korean Intellectual Property Office on Nov. 13, 2006 and assigned Serial No. 2006-111783, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION[0002]1. Field of the Invention[0003]The present invention relates to a method and system for converged IP messaging service, and in particular, to a method and system for managing message threads in converged IP messaging service.[0004]2. Description of the Related Art[0005]Many different messaging services, such as Short Message Service (SMS), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), email, Instant Messaging (IM) service, etc., exist today. Although these services rely on different technologies, user experiences the services provide partially overlap with each other. For example, it is possible to send text messages using...
