A wireless instant messaging system is disclosed. A mobile station (MS), such as a cellular telephone for instance, may be registered with an instant messaging (IM) server as being available to receive instant messages via an IM proxy. A user at an IM client terminal may then send an instant message destined for a user at the MS. The IM server may direct the message to a service node (SN), which may convert the message into an industry standard SMS message and send the SMS message to the MS. At the MS, a user may read the SMS message and engage a callback feature, which will establish a dial-up voice connection between the MS and the SN. The user at the MS may then speak an instant message response, and the SN may record the response as a compressed audio file. The SN may then send the compressed audio file as an attachment to an instant message back to the user at the IM client terminal. The IM client terminal may then play the spoken response message. The invention facilitates robust instant messaging communication, while avoiding the need for a user at the mobile station to engage in cumbersome text entry via a numeric keypad.

A system is disclosed in which a data processing device is completely synchronized with a messaging service. One embodiment of the system comprises a wireless data processing device; a messaging service to maintain messages and other information on behalf of a user; and synchronization logic for maintaining synchronization of the messages and other information between the wireless device and the messaging service.

An automated “Voice Search Message Service” provides a voice-based user interface for generating text messages from an arbitrary speech input. Specifically, the Voice Search Message Service provides a voice-search information retrieval process that evaluates user speech inputs to select one or more probabilistic matches from a database of pre-defined or user-defined text messages. These probabilistic matches are also optionally sorted in terms of relevancy. A single text message from the probabilistic matches is then selected and automatically transmitted to one or more intended recipients. Optionally, one or more of the probabilistic matches are presented to the user for confirmation or selection prior to transmission. Correction or recovery of speech recognition errors avoided since the probabilistic matches are intended to paraphrase the user speech input rather than exactly reproduce that speech, though exact matches are possible. Consequently, potential distractions to the user are significantly reduced relative to conventional speech recognition techniques.

An automated self-monitored alarm verification solution including at least a premises portion, a server portion, and an end user device portion. Alarm verification includes capturing by an image capture device at least one image in response to a detection event, and transmitting a first data signal including the image to a local signal processing device. The signal processing device transmits a second signal including at least a portion of the image to a remote hosted server according to at least a first set of predetermined parameters. After receiving the second signal, the server transmits a third signal including at least a portion of the image from the hosted server to a user device. Using the user device, a user views the image and indicates a validity status of the alarm based at least in part on the content of the image. A system and method for notifying an offline global computer network user of an online interaction in which the offline user could participate. The system and method specify notification criteria of the offline user, monitor activities occurring on the global computer network, compare the activities to the notification criteria, and, if the activities satisfy the notification criteria, forward an offline communication to the offline user, which notifies the offline user of the online interaction. Examples of the online interactions include chat rooms, game sites, instant messaging services, auctions, and calls made over the global computer network. Examples of the offline communication include calls to a wireline telephone, calls to a wireless telephone, messages to a caller identification device, messages to a wireless access protocol device, messages to a one-way pager, and messages to an interactive pager.

A notification system is coupled to a plurality of message services including a voice mail server, an email server and an information server in an office. Messages left for a user (e.g. voice mail, email, CRM event, etc.) are deposited in folders maintained by the messaging services. The notification system detects additions to the user's folders and when a new message arrives, the notification system sends an alert to a Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) enabled device (e.g. cell phone) configured for the user. The method includes: receiving, by a message service interworking module serving a receiver, an instant message sent by a sender; selecting, by the message service interworking module, a circuit switched domain (CS domain) or packet switched domain (PS domain) as a routing network; selecting, by the message service interworking module, a routing entity in the conventional CS domain or PS domain; and converting, by the message service interworking module, the instant message into a short message, and sending the short message to the receiver through the selected routing entity. A system and a message service interworking module for implementing message service interworking are also provided.

The method comprises compressing a voice message inputted by a user or a received voice mail into a voice data-and storing the compressed voice message or mail; if an SVMS function is selected, reading from a memory a selected voice data, segmenting the read voice data into segmented voice data of a predetermined size, and transmitting the segmented voice data to another mobile communication terminal using the SVMS; reassembling segmented voice files received from a transmitting mobile communication terminal, and storing the reassembled voice file in the memory; and upon receiving a voice mail playback request from the user, reading a selected voice data from the memory, decompressing the read voice data into voice signals, and outputting the voice signals to an output device of the mobile communication terminals.
