Abstract

The invention discloses an icon generating device, which includes a mode selection part and an icon generating part. The mode selection section allows a user to select at least one display mode for each data file from a plurality of display modes. The icon generating section generates icon data for each data file based on a display mode selected for each data file and based on data content of the data file, and outputs the generated icon data for each data file. The icon data is used to display an icon of each data file according to a display mode selected for each data file.
