Embodiment Construction

[0078] figure 1 A hearing device according to a first embodiment of the invention is shown in perspective view from two different angles, having a housing 10 with an open ear canal part in the form of a dome-shaped earphone 12 adapted to position In the wearer's ear canal 14, it fits comfortably in the ear canal 14 to retain the earphone 12 in the wearer's ear. The earphone 12 has an output port 16 for emitting sound to the wearer's eardrum. The earphone 12 also has a vent hole 22 which allows sound from outside or inside the ear to pass through the ear canal through the earphone 12, thereby substantially eliminating the occlusion effect when the earphone 12 is inserted into the wearer's ear canal.

[0079] The material of the earphone 12 may be a soft elastic body, such as silicone rubber or other soft plastics. The material of earphone 12 preferably has a hardness of about 30 Shore A (Shore A).

[0080] The housing 10 further includes a concha portion 24 connected to the ...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a new type of hearing device housing having an open canal section that is adapted for fitting in the ear canal of a wearer and having a short vent, the longitudinal extension of which is shorter than the longitudinal extension of the open canal section, and an output port for emission of sound towards the eardrum of the wearer when inserted in the ear canal, and an outer ear section for accommodation of electronic components and being attached to the canal section and adapted for positioning in front of the ear during use, the short vent reducing the occlusion effect, wherein the canal section comprises an open and flexible earpiece manufactured in standard sizes. The hearing device may be a hearing aid, a headset, a headphone, etc. Unlike a conventional BTE (Behind-The-Ear) hearing aid having a housing to be positioned behind the ear, the housing of the hearing device according to the present invention is positioned in front of the ear, i.e. in front of the pinna. The positioning of the hearing device is simple since positioning of the outer ear section is automatically performed together with the positioning of the open canal section in the ear canal of the wearer.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a new type of hearing device with a housing having an open ear canal portion. The hearing device may be a hearing aid, a headset, a headset or the like. Background technique [0002] Traditional in-the-ear (ITE) or deep-canal (CIC) hearing aids have an individually tailored housing that fits the wearer's ear canal. The hearing aid components, eg electronics, microphone, receiver, batteries etc. are contained in a housing which is closed by a panel at its terminus outside the ear. To reduce blockages, so-called vents, ie vent channels, may provide communication between the opening in the panel and the ear canal of the wearer. A vent hole may be drilled through the housing or housing, or a duct or tube extending in the hearing aid and connecting the opening in the panel with the opening on the opposite end of the housing may constitute the vent hole. The effectiveness of the vent increases with increasing cross-section...
