80 results about "Occlusion effect" patented technology

The occlusion effect occurs when an object fills the outer portion of a person's ear canal, and that person perceives "hollow" or "booming" echo-like sounds of their own voice. It is caused by bone-conducted sound vibrations reverberating off the object filling the ear canal. When talking or chewing, these vibrations normally escape through an open ear canal; most people are unaware of their existence. When the ear canal is blocked, the vibrations are reflected back toward the eardrum. Compared to a completely open ear canal, the occlusion effect can boost low frequency (usually below 500 Hz) sound pressure in the ear canal by 20 dB or more. This effect can be measured with a probe-tube microphone.

Canal hearing device with tubular insert

A canal hearing device with a dual acoustic seal system for preventing feedback while minimizing occlusion effects. The two-part device comprises a main module and an elongated tubular insert for conducting sound to the tympanic membrane and sealing within the bony region of the ear canal. The main module is positioned in the cartilaginous portion of the ear canal. The tubular insert comprises a sound conduction tube and a cylindrically hollow primary seal medially positioned in the bony region. The device also comprises a secondary seal laterally positioned in the cartilaginous region. The secondary seal, although providing additional acoustic sealing for the prevention of feedback, is sufficiently vented to provide a path of least acoustic resistance for occlusion sounds within the ear canal. In a preferred embodiment, the tubular insert comprises a coiled skeletal frame to provide high radial flexibility while maintaining sufficient axial rigidity for comfortable, kink-resistant, and consistent placement within the ear canal.

Location Based Wireless Collaborative Environment With A Visual User Interface

A wireless networked device incorporating a display, a video camera and a geo-location system receives geo-located data messages from a server system. Messages can be viewed by panning the device, revealing the message's real world location as icons and text overlaid on top of the camera input on the display. The user can reply to the message from her location, add data to an existing message at its original location, send new messages to other users of the system or place a message at a location for other users. World Wide Web geo-located data can be explored using the system's user interface as a browser. The server system uses the physical location of the receiving device to limit messages and data sent to each device according to range and filtering criteria, and can determine line of sight between the device and each actual message to simulate occlusion effects.

Minimal contact replaceable acoustic coupler

An acoustic coupler adapted for use with an intracanal receiver module can be deeply inserted into the ear canal of the user while making minimal contact with the walls of the ear canal. The minimal contact feature of the invention allows the acoustic coupler to seal the ear canal acoustically and anchor a hearing device at an optimal depth within the ear canal, while maximizing the user's comfort. The acoustic coupler is manufactured from a soft, pliable elastomer that allows it to conform readily to the shape of the ear canal. The acoustic coupler incorporates structural supports that allow the coupler to maintain an acoustical seal and withstand the inward pressure of the ear canal wall while making minimal contact with the ear canal. The invention incorporates a cerumen-protecting feature that prevents damage to a hearing device from infiltration of earwax into the sound port of the receiver. A vent pathway for control of occlusion effects is also provided. A user-friendly, attachment mechanism incorporating a snap-on, twist-off feature allows the acoustic coupler to concentrically surround the receiver module within the ear canal in a space-efficient manner.

The method comprises the steps of utilizing a depth camera KINECT to obtain a color image and a gray level image representing depth information; converting the color image into a bitmap image capable of being identified and tracked by an augmented reality occlusion system and registering a virtual model in a three-dimension mode; combining the three-dimensional registration position of the virtual model and the self depth of the virtual model to conduct threshold treatment on the gray level image and extracting the peripheral contour of a real object; in the render scene of the virtual model, registering a contour coordinate system in a three-dimensional mode; switching a two-dimensional outline vertex coordinate system into a three-dimensional coordinate corresponding to the actual size, drawing in the contour coordinate system, and using a re-drawn contour as a three-dimensional model to shield the virtual model; combining the color image and the treated virtual model, filling a real object image into an outline internal area, namely, the occlusion part of the virtual model, so as to obtain a virtual reality occlusion effect. According to the method, pre-modeling and comparing the depth information of the virtual model pixel by pixel are not needed, so that the method is suitable for environments with unknown changes and can meet instantaneity requirements.
