16846 results about "Bluetooth" patented technology

Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data between fixed and mobile devices over short distances using short-wavelength UHF radio waves in the industrial, scientific and medical radio bands, from 2.400 to 2.485 GHz, and building personal area networks (PANs). It was originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS-232 data cables.

Wireless media system and player and method of operation

A wireless media player and a related system and methodology are disclosed. One aspect of the wireless media player system pertains to a virtual connector system, apparatus, and method for the automatic establishment of wireless connectivity with other electronic devices. In one embodiment, the media player device employs the use of integrated Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to exchange communication settings, media capability, and other parameters with an external device that also has integrated RFID technology. The automatic exchange of settings and other information via a proximity-based RFID data exchange allows a media player to quickly establish a secure communication link with another device via a commonly supported wireless protocol such as Ultra Wideband (UWB) or Bluetooth. Another aspect of the media player system pertains to a method of using the captured media capability of the connecting device to customize certain menu options and software parameters in the media player.

RFID device, system and method of operation including a hybrid backscatter-based RFID tag protocol compatible with RFID, bluetooth and/or IEEE 802.11x infrastructure

An RFID system includes a hybrid backscatter-based RFID tag protocol-compatible with existing 802.11x / Bluetooth Standards as well as RFID standards. The tag is linked to a multi-protocol Interrogator via a generated RF Continuous Wave (CW) field. The tag includes an antenna coupled to an RFID and a Bluetooth / 802.11x transceiver section. A Protocol Processor services RFID and transceiver sections and is coupled to the antenna via a backscatter switch. The Interrogator can switch the tag to an RFID backscatter radiation mode where the processor switches the antenna impedance to reflect the CW signal. For transceiver operation the processor switches antenna impedance in synchronization with a frame organized bit stream. For reception, the RFID section utilizes demodulation techniques, typically Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK), and provides a wake up mode within a predetermined distance of the Interrogator. The transceiver may operate in a backscatter or regular mode as directed by an Access Point.

Interoperability for bluetooth/IEEE 802.11

The key of the invention is to introduce an interoperability device in a communication system which integrates an IEEE 802.11 transceiver and a Bluetooth transceiver. The device prevents that one transceiver is transmitting while the other is receiving, which would cause interference at the receiving transceiver. In addition, the device preferably prevents that both systems are transmitting at the same time to avoid interference at the receiving device(s). Optionally the device prohibits simultaneous reception of both transceivers. In that way the radio receiver can be shared between the devices, allowing a cheaper and smaller hardware design.

Linking security association to entries in a contact directory of a wireless device

A system, apparatus and method for relating a security association to a contact in a namespace familiar to the user, and using this association to make access control decisions. An identifier of a first device is received at a second device. Using the identifier, the second device locates a contact entry corresponding to the identifier in a contact directory. A contact name associated with the identified contact entry is presented to the user of the second device to facilitate user authorization of the wireless proximity connection. An authorization identifier, e.g., a Bluetooth link key, is associated with the contact entry if authorized by the user of the second device. A wireless proximity connection, e.g., a Bluetooth connection, is established between the first and second devices in response to associating the authorization identifier with the entry. When subsequent wireless proximity connection are attempted between the first and second devices, the connection may be automatically established.

Location determination of low power wireless devices over a wide area

The present invention discloses a method and system for location determination of low power wireless devices, over a wide area, utilizing a multitude of communication devices operating on a WAN (Wide Area Network) which can detect signals transmitted by said nearby low power wireless devices, and report this detection to a control station over the WAN. Said station can further locate the reporting communication device by present art methods such as “network based” or “handset based”, and consequently locate the nearby wireless device. Due to the short range nature of the wireless device transmissions, and dynamic mobility of these devices, it is crucial to establish a swift ad-hoc connection between a wireless device and a nearby communication device, still, in order to save battery power and avoid inefficient and interfering transmissions, communications between a wireless device and a communication device are not initiated unitl a sensor comprised in the wireless device detects and a communication device. In a preferred embodiment, the wireless device is Bluetooth and the communication device is a Bluetooth enabled mobile / cellular phone and the sensor detects radiation emitted by the mobile device on non Bluetooth bands.
