Pixel circuit, display and driving method thereof

The invention provides a pixel circuit that can cancel the influence of the mobility of a drive transistor. A drive transistor supplies to a light-emitting element, an output current dependent upon an input voltage during a certain emission period. The light-emitting element emits light with a luminance dependent upon a video signal in response to the output current supplied from the drive transistor. The pixel circuit includes a correction unit that corrects the input voltage held by a capacitive part before the emission period or at the beginning of the emission period, in order to cancel the dependence of the output current on the carrier mobility. The correction unit operates during part of a sampling period in response to control signals supplied from scan lines. Specifically, the correction unit extracts the output current from the drive transistor while the video signal is sampled, and negatively feeds back the output current to the capacitive part to thereby correct the input voltage.

Method and device for error concealment in an encoded audio-signal and method and device for decoding an encoded audio signal

InactiveUS7003448B1Precise and flexible error concealmentEffort controlCode conversionSpeech synthesisFrequency spectrumError concealment
In a method for concealing an error in an encoded audio signal a set of spectral coefficients is subdivided into at least two sub-bands (14), whereupon the sub-bands are subjected to a re-verse transform (16). A specific prediction is performed (18) for each quasi time signal of a sub-band to obtain an estimated temporal representation for a sub-band of a set of spectral coefficients following the current set. A forward transform (20) of the time signal of each sub-band provides estimated spectral coefficients which can be used (28) instead of erroneous spectral coefficients of a following set of spectral coefficients, e.g. in order to conceal transmission errors. Transforming at the sub-band level provides independence from transform characteristics such as block length, window type and MDCT algorithm while at the same time preserving spectral processing for error concealment. Thus the spectral characteristics of audio signals can also be taken into account during error concealment.

Method and apparatus for dynamic voice reservation within wireless networks

A multi-hop wireless Ad-Hoc network according to the present invention employs a voice reservation protocol. The protocol supports voice and data communication and incorporates retransmission and acknowledgement mechanisms. A TDMA frame architecture is dynamically selected depending on voice mode operation (e.g., simplex / duplex) and associated retransmission / acknowledgement mechanisms. A source node transmits a reservation packet that embeds TDMA frame architecture and other information. The packet is transmitted to a destination node and is further piggybacked on existing neighbor discovery packets to reduce overhead. Each intermediate network node along the propagation path determines the manner in which to accomplish slot reservation based on the embedded information in the reservation packet. The protocol may use separate dedicated channels or a single channel for voice and data, and supports voice / data load balancing over different channels. In addition, the protocol may utilize speech silence and increased communication reliability to enhance performance.

Method for amplitude insensitive packet detection

The invention relates generally to the field of wireless communications and more particularly to a method of and device for detecting the presence of a received data packet in a digital receiver. The present invention proposes a simplified method of correlation by removing dependency on the amplitude fluctuations while at the same time maintaining phase relevancy. The key advancement involves mapping the complex quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) preamble to a quantized phase shift keying (PSK) constellation before application to a matched complex correlator. The proposed process essentially “amplitude normalizes” the input signal without the use or complexity associated with a divider. This simplified normalization scheme makes the packet detection algorithm robust against amplitude variations in the input signal, while still allowing for good correlation output. In applications where interference is superimposed on the I / Q input signals, the invention improves the detection capability over automatic gain control (AGC) normalization methods.

Plasma ignition for direct injected internal combustion engines

An apparatus and method for the creation, placement and control of an area of electrical ionization within an internal combustion engine combustion chamber. This area of electrical ionization is positioned so that all of the fuel being injected into the combustion chamber must pass next to or through the area of electrical ionization to ensure that combustion has been initiated for all of the fuel as it is injected. This area of electrical ionization can be kept on as long as it is necessary to insure that the all of the fuel that is injected into the combustion chamber can be completely combusted. An engine equipped with this electrical ionization device has its fuel economy enhanced by timely, controlled, and complete combustion of all of the fuel injected into its combustion chamber. Furthermore, the pollutant emissions of both oxides of nitrogen and unburned hydrocarbons are reduced dramatically. Further, cold starting capability of this engine is greatly enhanced by a major reduction in the time necessary for the engine to warm up and a major reduction of pollutants created by the engine during the warm-up period. Additionally, this method of combustion also allows the engine to operate at a higher speed (rpm) allowing an increase in peak power output.
