A system, method, and computer-readable medium for updating request routing information associated with client location information are provided. A content delivery network service provider receives a DNS query from a client computing device. The DNS query corresponds to a resource identifier for requested content from the client computing device. The content delivery network service provider obtains a query IP address corresponding to the client computing device. Based on routing information associated with the query IP address, the content delivery network service provider routes the DNS query. The process further includes monitoring performance data associated with the transmission of the requested resource and updating routing information associated with the query IP address based on the performance data for use in processing subsequent requests form the client computing device.

When a network resource request having a domain name is received, it is determined whether the network resource can be accessed from the domain name. Rather than, or in addition to, displaying an error message or processing a search request in response to determining that a network resource can not be accessed, the domain name can instead be redirected to a registration service where the domain name can be automatically used to perform a registration request and determine domain name availability. A token-based centralized authentication method for providing access to a service provider to user information associated with a user's relationship with the service provider includes the steps of: authenticating a user presenting a user token at a user terminal, the user token having stored thereon a user ID; deriving a resource identifier using at least two data input elements, the at least two data input elements including the user ID of the user and a service provider ID of the service provider, wherein the user information is stored in a storage network and the resource identifier is associated with the user information; retrieving the user information from the storage network using the resource identifier; and providing the retrieved user information to the service provider.

Embodiments may be used to generate network resource identifiers that uniquely identify resources such as processes over time and across the networked environment. One embodiment may be implemented as a resource name generator that generates unique identifiers for resources in networked environments. One embodiment may generate unique network resource identifiers for processes from information including, but not limited to, a host address that uniquely identifies on the network the host machine of the resource for which the unique network resource identifier is being generated, a current time (e.g. obtained from the host machine or alternatively from an external source such as an atomic time server), and a process identifier of the process that uniquely identifies the process among current processes on the host machine.

A method for tagging internet resource identifiers (IR) based on situationally aware software includes: determining a user's role, context, situation, and which uniform IR is currently being viewed by the user; retrieving one or more of: role and situation tags, and predefined vocabulary from a database in response to the determining; creating a community tag list in the event one or more community tags exist in response to the determined IR; providing the community tag list to the user; receiving a user selected community tag from the community tag list; tagging the IR with the user selected community tag; wherein in the event the community tag list has not been created, the IR is tagged with at least one of the retrieved role and situation tags, and the predefined vocabulary; and wherein the tagging is based on at least one of the user's context, role, or situation.

The invention generally concerns the issue of providing connectivity between two different address realms, generally referred to as an inside realm and an outside realm, by establishing connections through an intermediate gateway. The gateway normally has a number of outside-realm gateway addresses for enabling representation of inside-realm nodes in the outside realm. In a first aspect, support for flexible outside-realm initiated connections is enabled by dynamically establishing new gateway connection states triggered, for each new connection, by a respective user-resource identifier query initiated from a corresponding outside node. A system, method and computer-readable medium for request routing based on content popularity information are provided. A client computer transmits a request for content from a content provider. The content provider utilizes executable code, such as translation request code, for facilitating request routing utilizing popularity information. The translation request code, may direct a client computing device to request further translation request code and/or translation information. Thereafter, the client issues a DNS query with the translated information including popularity information. The content delivery network service provider can then either resolve the DNS query with an IP address of a cache component or transmit another alternative resource identifier that will resolve to the content delivery network service provider. The process can repeat until a DNS nameserver resolves a DNS query from the client computing device.

When it is determined that the at least one network resource corresponding to the one or more resource identifiers can not be located, search results are then modified and provided in response to the search request.

An apparatus and method are disclosed for enabling controlled access to resources at a resource provider server. The invention may encrypt or decrypt a portion of a uniform resource identifier (URI), according to a stateless method for hiding resources and/or providing access control support. Upon receipt of a URI having an encrypted portion, the invention decrypts the encrypted portion using a predetermined key to obtain a decrypted segment, extracts additional information from the decrypted segment and forms a decrypted URI, before the decrypted URI is forwarded to a resource producer server. The invention may also encrypt a URI from a resource provider server before it is sent to a client in response to a client request.

An aggregator token is generated by an ASP aggregator service and sent to a client device after its user has been successfully authenticated during a single-sign-on operation that is provided by the ASP aggregator service. The aggregator token then accompanies any request from the client to aggregated applications within the ASP aggregator service's infrastructure. The aggregator token comprises an indication of an address or resource identifier within the ASP aggregator service to which a client/user can be redirected when the client/user needs to be authenticated by the ASP aggregator service. In other words, the address/identifier is associated with a logon resource; when a request from a client is sent to this address, the ASP aggregator service responds with an authentication challenge to force the user to complete a single-sign-on operation.
