Abstract

The invention discloses a method for measuring tree-crown volume fractal dimension by applying a three-dimensional laser image-scanning system. The method comprises the steps of utilizing the three-dimensional laser scanning system to scan a tree-crown, obtaining the three-dimensional space lattice data of the tree-crown, establishing the tree-crown three-dimensional space model and calculating the surface area and volume of the tree-crown; and then linear fitting by taking the logarithm value of the tree-crown volume as an independent variable and taking the logarithm value of leaf biomass as an induced variable so as to determine that the measured tree-crown volume fractal dimension is three times of the linear fitting slope. The method avoids felling stumpage and protects the forests; and simultaneously, the adoption of the fractal dimension as the new parameter representing the tree-crown pattern structure is a beneficial supplement for the forest-measurement and significant for further studying the growth of trees.
