Abstract

The invention discloses a method and set-top box for automatically playing favorite television programs of users. The method comprises the following steps: after turning on a television, detecting whether a timing watching function is set or not; if the timing watching function is set, acquiring the pre-stored information of watching channels, and playing according to the pre-stored watching channels; and if the timing watching function is not set, according to the stored time length of watching each channel in different time periods by users, determining the channel with longest time length in the current time period, and determining the channel as the favorite channel of the users for playing. The invention also provides a set-top box correspondingly. The technical scheme provided by the invention can automatically play the favorite channel of the users when the television is turned on.
