Problems solved by technology

Additionally, the data structure for each message is large, resulting in high bandwidth requirements for exchanging messages
Thus, SyncML is a relatively complex synchronization process that must exchange multiple messages, requires significant network bandwidth, and requires a relatively long amount of time to complete
The complexity of the SyncML process linked to the limitations of cellular networks (e.g., possible signal loss, bandwidth limitations, etc.) makes the synchronization process less reliable

Abstract

The present invention provides methods, apparatus, systems and computer program products for wirelessly synchronizing data sets stored on a wireless device and at a network device, such as a network server or database. Aspects of the invention provide a simplified and efficient synchronization process whereby synchronization can be accomplished in a single round trip of wireless communication between the wireless device and the network device. Single round-trip synchronization enables less use of network resources, shorter overall synchronization cycle times, and reduces the possibility of wireless network failures such as lost calls that cause the synchronization process to fail. Additionally, further simplification and efficiency are achieved by creating a synchronization process that allows the network data set to be independent of the wireless device data set (ie, the network server does not require a complete history of changes and the network server does not need to know the wireless device data set version). The synchronization can be applied to network-based gaming applications.

Description

[0001] Priority Claims Under 35 U.S.C. §119 [0002] This patent application claims Provisional Application No. 60 / 945,088, filed June 19, 2007, entitled "METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR DATASET SYNCHRONIZATION INA WIRELESS ENVIRONMENT" Priority of the Provisional Application is assigned to the assignee of the present invention and is expressly incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The disclosed aspects relate to wireless communication devices, and more particularly to systems, methods, and apparatus for wirelessly synchronizing data sets stored on wireless communication devices with corresponding data sets stored at network locations. Background technique [0004] Synchronization is the process of synchronizing a single file (also known as a data set) between two or more devices. The process is implemented by automatically replicating changes back and forth between the devices until the data sets are substantially equal across the devices. [0005] Synchro...
