A system for employing SyncML DM for updating firmware in mobile handsets and other devices. The system employs enhancements to SyncML DM specifications. A SyncML management client employs new commands, specified by the present invention, for retrieving update packages for firmware updates, for the verification of a received update package, the command for saving the update package in an appropriate management object, the command for initiating an update process by an update agent and the command for the subsequent notification of the results of processing by the update agent (success, failure, etc.). More specifically, the SyncML DM management client employs new commands, specified by the present invention, for retrieving update packages for firmware updates and for updating the firmware selectively based on appropriateness, security and authentication, employing fault tolerant means.

A data synchronization method for more than three networked devices including at least one client and one server for efficiently synchronizing data among multiple devices supporting a Synchronization Markup Language (SyncML) protocol is provided. The data synchronization method includes determining whether a data item indicated by synchronization information contained in a synchronization request message exists in a change log table of the server, when a server receives the synchronization request message sent by a first client, and updating the change log table by adding the data item indicated by the synchronization information and transmitting a synchronization request message containing a data identifier and the change log of the data item to a second client, if a data item indicated by the synchronization information does not exist, otherwise, ending data synchronization by transmitting a synchronization response message containing status information to the first client.

A management tree or nodes arranged hierarchically tree-like, respectively, is used to manage, contain and map information of a manageable device according to the SyncML DM protocol standard. A management server can request from such a device, by means of a GET command, information contained in a certain node of the management tree server. A method for the efficient persistent storage of Device Management (DM) information on a mobile device is provided. More specifically, the present design provides methods for applications to access and update this information consistent with the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) DM standard by extending the OMA SyncML DM standard and providing a physical implementation of a tree management data structure. This implementation enables device management parameters, originating from server applications to be received, stored and accessed by a client mobile device. The present design incorporates centralized access and security rights management for securing DM information such that only permitted applications may access and update this information. A technique for transferring a data message between a first terminal device and a second terminal device via an intermediate terminal device includes: entering a data message into the first terminal device; transmitting the data message from the first terminal device to the intermediate terminal device; formatting the data message into at least one SMS (Short Message Service) message in the intermediate terminal device; and transmitting the at least one SMS message from the intermediate terminal device to the second terminal device. A modified data synchronization system having data security and proxy capabilities has a delivery server, a PC, and at least one mobile phone. The PC sends out the exchange data through the Internet to a remote location where the delivery server is installed, and then one mobile phone compliant with SyncML protocols dials in to conduct data synchronization with the delivery server through wireless means, through which the existing data discrepancy between the mobile phone and the PC can be eliminated. A system and method for storing and retrieving preconfigured, hidden SyncML server profiles on a client is described. Conventionally, users of client devices need to manually configure the devices to allow for synchronization with new servers via SyncML. Preconfigured SyncML profiles allow a client to synchronize with a SyncML server without having to generate a new SyncML profile, thereby improving user experience. The preconfigured SyncML profiles may be hidden from a user or displayable to a user.

A mobile communication terminal includes a Synchronization Markup Language (SyncML) Device Management (DM) client having a preset management tree for a search. The mobile communication terminal accesses a SyncML DM server, sends search information corresponding to the management tree and an execution command from the SyncML DM client to the SyncML DM server according to a SyncML DM protocol, and receives a search result through the designated messaging service. A server includes the SyncML DM server having the management tree and a search server. The SyncML DM server receives the search information and the execution command from the client according to the SyncML DM protocol, and sends a search execution request to the search server. The search server executes a search in response to the request, and transmits a search result based on the search execution to the mobile communication terminal through a messaging service designated in the search information.

The invention discloses a method for carrying out data synchronization by using a mobile data synchronization protocol, which is used for a mobile communication network system including a client end and a server end. SyncML is used for synchronizing data of terminal device in wireless and wired environments. In general, synchronization takes place between a terminal device (e.g., a mobile phone) and a server device (e.g., a web server in Internet). However, a SyncML session, which occurs between the terminal and server, is an end-to-end communication. The idea of the present invention is to provide a method, a router and a system to allow routing of the synchronizing data exchanged during a synchronizing session through such a router. In general having the router is more cost efficient and a faster solution from the end-user point of view.
