Abstract

The valve (10) has a linear actuator mechanically coupled between a movable vane (26) and housing (20). The actuator (30) comprises a wire device fabricated from a shape memory alloy. A power supply is electrically coupled to the actuator to effect a phase transformation in the shape memory alloy to move the vane to one of the open and closed positions when the power supply is activated in response to an activation command from a controller. An actuable latching system retains the movable vane in one of the open position and the closed position for an indeterminate time period.
