Problems solved by technology

This concept is widely recognized and used, but a common disadvantage of this concept is that in the case of a ship loaded with an uneven composition of gravity, such as when only one type of cargo is transported, the ship operates with unsuitable stability
[0016] In loading situations where the center of gravity of the cargo is too low, the ship will operate with too high a stability, causing the ship to quickly roll from side to side, causing discomfort to the crew and increased cargo damage, etc.
[0017] However, as far as so-called ro-ro ships are concerned, the prior art does not propose a solution for optimum flexibility and capacity
In particular, the conventional construction of RO-RO ships, due to the aforementioned stability-related deficiencies, places limits on the amount of additional cargo that can be carried, and on the conditions under which such cargo can be carried

Embodiment Construction

[0075] The present invention will be described in detail below with reference to preferred embodiments shown in the drawings.

[0076] figure 1 An example of a prior art RO-RO vessel is shown. The vessel is shown in partial vertical longitudinal section. Reference numerals 200 and 300 denote first and second cargo hold sections, respectively, wherein reference numeral 200 denotes a cargo hold section for accommodating cargo loaded and unloaded by lift, and reference numeral 300 denotes a cargo hold section for accommodating vehicles loaded and unloaded by ro-ro. The cargo hold section 300 comprises several intermediate decks 301 arranged below the weather deck and extending substantially the entire length of the ship excluding the engine room 302 .

[0077] The weather deck 250 , which forms an enclosure above the hull, is also used to support surface cargo 200 , which is shown in dashed lines in the figure and generally consists of containers stacked on top of each other an...

Abstract

A roll-on and roll-off ship comprising a front part (50), a rear part (60) and a central part (70) is disclosed. The ship is arranged with holds adapted to accommodate containers etc. in the front part and in the rear parts and roll on / roll off cargo in the central part of the ship. The central part extends from the tank top to a level above the weather deck. A ramp is provided in the aft part of the ship, and the roll on / roll off cargo transits from the ramp to the third cargo hold section via a passageway arranged in the aft part of the ship. The passageway may be arranged as a tunnel, which may be adapted to support cargo stowed above the passageway.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a vessel that provides high cargo capacity and flexibility through a unique design of the combination of a cargo hold section for containers and a cargo hold section accommodating vehicles. [0002] According to one aspect, the present invention relates to a ship comprising a hull, a weather deck, a forward part, a rear part, a central part, and first, second and third cargo hold parts. [0003] The forward portion of the vessel includes the first cargo hold portion for accommodating cargo in the form of containers and is defined non-exclusively by the hull and the weather deck, wherein the weather deck being located at a height above the baseline of the vessel and including an access hatch or opening to provide access to the first cargo hold portion; [0004] The rear portion of the vessel includes the second cargo hold portion for receiving cargo in the form of containers, defined not exclusively by the hull and the we...
