In the invention, a video image frame is divided into a full detection frame and a predetermined frame; the type of the current input video image frame is judged according to the frame interval between the current input video image frame and the former full detection frame; and a corresponding detection way is adopted. As video sequence has predictable characteristics in a time-space domain, parts of the video image frame are detected by searching different regions by different step lengths, so that the method can efficiently reduce the searching time in the detecting process, avoid the shortage that the general algorithm based on AdaBoost cascade algorithm searches all the regions by fixed step length, greatly reduce the calculating complexity in the detecting process and guarantee the accuracy of the detection.
